Olympics 2024 Paris – Italian boxer Angela Carini came to Paris Olympics to win the medal for the honour of her late father and coach who died shortly after she participated in Tokyo games three years ago.
But Carini’s performance lasted just 46 seconds on Thursday before she abandoned her game against Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, with some spot on the trunks.
Even Carini Said she was not making any statement about Imane Khelif, who was disqualified from last year’s world championship after failing for gender eligibility test,the debate reopened about Imane Khelif’s status.
Who is Angela Carini?
The 25 year old Carini have won Silver medals at both the world and European championship in 2019.Carini competes in the 66-kilogram(145.5pound) class.
She lost her opening fight in Tokyo and she was also a Gold medalist at the European youth championships.
Carini learnt Boxing from her brother and father.Before starting her boxing career she was Italian champion at clay pigeon shooting.she followed her brother who left shooting for boxing.
Why did she quit against Imane Khelif?
Carini said her face and nose were hurting after the opening punches from Imane Khelif adding that her nose bled afterwards.Carini said I have never been hit with such powerful punch.and I couldn’t breathe.
Carini said she was apologetic to Khelif for not shaking hand after the bout.It wasn’t something I intended to do but I was angry because my Olympics had gone up in smokeI didn’t have anything against Khelif.If I will met her again I will embrace her.
